The outer shell of an NFL football helmet is 3.35mm of polycarbonate, which is 0.132 inches. Our device is to be made out of 3/16 polycarbonate which is 0.187 inches. This makes the device thicker than an NFL helmet with the difference being 0.187-0.132 inches. We could also make the device out of quarter inch polycarbonate, which would make it 0.250 inches thick.
A seventh grade lineman can run 50 plays in practice and experience 50 head impacts. Times 5 days is 250 head impacts per week. Times 4 weeks is 1,000/month. Times 3 months is 3,000/season. Times 6 years is 18,000 from grade 7 thru 12. Four years of college is another 12,000. Four years in the NFL is another 12,000. A 26 year old NFL player can have 42,000 head impacts.
